M.K.B. (Marine Küsten Batterie) Todt is located near the crossing of the D191 to Cap Gris Nez and the D940 to Audinghen, 30km south of Calais.
The battery was first called Siegfried, but when the founder and leader of the Organisation Todt (OT), Dr Fritz Todt, died in 1942, the battery was renamed after him. In the four giant casemates stood 38cm canons, just like the ones the Germans used on their battleships. The construction started in August 1940 and in January 1941 the battery was officially finished.
The first huge casemate, Turm I, can be seen from a great distance and looks very impressive. Today the bunker is a museum dedicated to the battery. The museum is filled with grenades, guns, rifles, ammunition, and lots of other things. Outside there is a large railway gun and several armoured vehicles, guns, trucks and much more.
When you follow the road you came by, you find a KSS (Kabel Schalt Stelle) in a field and some barracks on private terrain. Further down the road several Flak emplacements have been built and two of them are still visible today. The calibre was 7,5cm.
Turm III and Turm IV are located in a wood on the right side of the road. Turm III has been accidentally destroyed in 1945 by two Frenchmen, but it looks even more impressive now. Turm IV is a real beauty. The inside looks very nice with lots of slogans and art on the walls. The lower levels of the bunker cannot be entered because they are filled with water. Next to the casemate is a beautiful preserved Wellblech bunker. Around the casemates are several other small bunkers and nice Tobruks with concrete roofs. 300m Towards the coast a bunker is located built to provide the battery with water. Inside there are still some remains of the pump installation.
Turm II is located at the other side of the road, the bunker is firmly closed, Turm II and Turm IV have a Flak emplacement on the roof. Around Turm II there are lots of other bunkers, all the bunkers are closed. They probably served as personnel bunkers and bunkers to store ammunition ore other things. The personnel bunkers are all navy design, like most of the bunkers at this location. At the back of Turm II you see the remains of a bakery. The brick building is almost completely demolished.
More inland, behind the battery, along the N40 we found a hospital and an emplacement for a 5cm gun, the hospital cannot be entered because it is flooded with water. You can still see the rails for the sliding doors at the entry.
